Santa Maria delle Grazie
Via Grazie 13
Started in 1522 by Gerolamini friars, of the original Renaissance style of the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie remains only the simple façade on which stands out the majestic stone portal with two wood leafs, in with in each side two small Romanesque red marble lions, decorated according to the refined and imaginative Lombard sculpture style of the XVth century. The inside, mostly altered in the XVIth and XVIIth century, appears with a big super abundances of decorations, stuccoes, gold plates and statues to which contributed the best artists from Brescia of that time and it represents the only example of the splendour and wealth reached in the baroque time reached in Brescia. Among the Renaissance vestiges still present in the Basilica there are: the painting by Moretto 'Virgin between SS. Sebastian, Martin and Rocco' in the chapel at the end of the right aisle; a copy of the 'Adoration of the Child' by Moretto on the high altar; 'St. Anna and St. Joachim' by Bagnadore on the fourth altar of the left aisle and the painting by Paolo da Caylina il Giovane 'Madonna of the Graces and Saints' of 1543 on the first altar.
On the left of the church, there is the Sanctuary, erected over the ancient church of the Humiliated of the XIIIth century and rebuilt in the XIXth century keeping the old style. Between the church and the Sanctuary there is a nice small renaissance cloister with a small fountain in the middle.
