Duomo Vecchio o Rotonda
Piazza Paolo VI

Next to the New Cathedral, on the eastern side of Paolo VI sq., there’s the Old Cathedral or “Round” one of the most interesting Brescia’s monument, erected by masters from Como (XIth – XIIth century) on the ruins of the ancient basilica of St. Maria de Dom (VIth century) and destroyed by a fire in 1097. After many alteration caused during the centuries, from 1881 to 1948 , it was restored as the original shape: circular plan body and hemispheric cupola. Inside you can admire important monuments of the XIVth and XVth centuries , fragments of mosaics (VIth century), riches fresco painting ornaments of the XIIIth century and some Renaissance works by Moretto and Romanino.
