MUSEO “S. GIULIA”

The City’s Museum develops around three cloisters and three churches of different times: the Longobard basilica of St. Salvatore, the Romanesque church of St. Maria in Solario and the Renaissance church of St. Giulia. The exhibition way of the Museum (about 12.000 m2) recall Brescia history, from the Bronze Age to the last century, by archeological finds, mosaics, frescos, architectonic and decorative elements, statues and work of art. The sections are: on the basement floor the archeological area, the Prehistory and Protohistory Ages, the Roman Age and the territory; on the ground floor the Roman Age with the Domus dell’Ortaglia, the Early Middle Ages – Longobard and Carolingian – the St. Salvatore church, the Commune and Seigniory Ages, the Venetian Age and the Convent; on the first floor St. Maria in Solario, St. Giulia and the Choir of the Nuns, Collections and Applied Arts and Venetian Age. PINACOTECA “TOSIO MARTINENGO”

Inside the sixteenth-century Martinengo da Barco Palace, the Pinacoteca takes in important works which document Italian painting and, above all the Brescia and Venetian school one from the XIVth to XVIIth century. Among present artists, we remind: Paolo Veneziano, Ferramola, Piazza, Raffaello, Romanino, Moretto, Lotto, Gambara, Savoldo, Bagnadore, Mombello, Campi, Arcimboldi, il Pitocchetto and Cifrondi.

MUSEO DEL RISORGIMENTO

Inside Brescia’s Castle in the Grande e Piccolo Miglio surroundings (1597 – 98), originally corn warehouse for Venetia’s, garrison, the Risorgimento Museum takes in the civic collection of material from the end of 1700 to the Unit of Italy (1870). Among the different relics there are white and fire arms, documents, French and Italian printed matter, paintings, busts of personages, battles maps, flags, etc.

MUSEO DIOCESANO

This Sacred Art Museum is in the wonderful major cloister of the St. Giuseppe church, built between the end of the XVIth century and the beginning of the XVIth century and preserved paintings, church vestments and vessels objects coming from Brescia territory. The exhibition rooms are on the first floor and they are divided in four sections: Diocesan Art Gallery, Liturgical Woven Museum, illuminated manuscript rooms and diocesan treasure rooms.

The Museum exhibits a selection of works belonging to a rich collection (more than 4500 works) of paintings, sculptures, drawings and graphic of Italian and foreign artists of 1900. Among the Italians: Sironi, Guttuso, Morandi, De Chirico, Fiume, Castrati, Messina, Manzù, Greco, Giacometti and others. Among the international artists: Chagall, Hookney, Kokoschka, Dalì, Heckel, Schimdt, Beckmann, Matisse, Guitton, Buffet and others.

MUSEO MILLE MIGLIA

The Mille Miglia Museum is housed in the beautiful Benedictine monastery of Sant’Eufemia della Fonte, in Brescia, building dating back to 1008 that encompasses centuries of Brescian history and that alone deserves a visit for the elegance architecture of the complex.
The internal exhibition is characterized by a path indicated by a red road that accompanies the visitor through the two levels of the museum: the first floor devoted to editions of the Mille Miglia to the Second World War and the ground floor dedicated to those from 1947 to '57. In addition to the legendary classic cars perfectly preserved, has a large collection of curious objects related to the racing world and the usages and customs of the time. The museum is enriched with descriptive panels, audio-visual equipments, vintage movies of the Mille Miglia race and its protagonists.
